Embodying Anti-Racism
This workshop engages participants in an active reflection on race and racism through embodied practice based on Theatre of the Oppressed techniques. Through collective brainstorming and image analysis, participants will reflect on individual actions that they can make to bring positive change to their lives and communities. This interactive workshop honors each individual’s lived experience, using image creation to unleash our body-knowledge in order to synthesize solutions that live within our collective imagination. In this workshop you will learn from yourself as well as the rest of the participants and the facilitator, leading to powerful reflections and community building.
In this workshop, participants will:
- Analyze power dynamics that are relevant in their lives and communities.
- Reflect on themes relevant to the summit such as anti-racism and allyship.
- Collectively brainstorm individual actions to make positive change in their lives and communities.
Length: 1-2 hours

De-Escalation Training
This training engages in scenario-based roleplaying to prepare customer-facing staff to more confidently de-escalate tense and problematic situations with customers. During the training, participants will be able to try out different de-escalation techniques in a safe and supportive environment while learning best practices. We will explore scenarios based on real-life situations curated for your organization, and participants will leave with practical tools to navigate issues that arise related to organizational policies and EDI values.
In this workshop, participants will:
- Learn and practice tools for de-escalation with customers, and having conversations with customers on topics related to EDI in a workplace setting.
Length: 2-3 hours

Microaggressions Bystander Intervention
This training engages in scenario-based roleplaying to practice positive intervention when witnessing or experiencing a microaggression. During the training, participants will be able to try out different de-escalation techniques in a safe and supportive environment while learning best practices. We will explore scenarios based on real-life situations curated for your organization, and participants will leave with practical tools to navigate microaggressions that may arise in their life and work.

- Learn and practice tools for interpersonal intervention when witnessing or experiencing a microaggression.

Approach
I am a career community engagement practitioner with eight years of experience at multi-million dollar regional theater non-profits and six years of professional EDI consulting experience.
I provide organizations with comprehensive diversification strategy at any level – audience, staff, board, volunteers, etc. My approach is robust, focusing on long-term success, authentic and mutually beneficial community relationships, and internal inclusion practices that support the success of marginalized communities, especially within predominately white institutions (PWIs).
I can help you develop successful community-based programming with effective assessment and reporting methodologies and long-term plans that do not rely on short-term grant funding. Whatever your budget or staff size, I tailor my approach according to yours and your community’s needs.

About the Facilitator

Nabra Nelson is a community organizer, EDI consultant, and theatre creator from Egypt, Nubia, and California. She has worked with theaters, universities, non-profits, corporations, and community organizations across the nation to strengthen community and amplify under-heard voices. She is an EDI consultant with Avent Diversity Consulting, and an independent theatre-based consultant specializing in Theatre of the Oppressed. As an independent consultant, she has worked with Sankofa Impact, Leadership Tomorrow, Inspire Washington, Seattle Rep, Seattle Arts & Culture for Anti-Racism, Young Women Empowered, Highline College, and UCSB. She is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara.
