I got two pieces of exciting news this week!

I am one of six screenwriters selected to be a part of this year’s M Film Lab’s Screenwriting Lab! This innovative program invites writers from all backgrounds to submit compelling short film screenplays that explore themes of identity, belonging, and the experiences of minorities, immigrants, and underrepresented communities. Through this program, I will be developing my new short film script, The Secretly Liberal Muslim. I will receive direct one-on-one mentorship at the hands of 6 experienced industry professionals over the course of 2 weeks, and in the end, 1 of the 6 scripts will be optioned for production!
I am also grateful to be a Semi-Finalist for the Playwright Foundations’ Bay Area Playwrights Festival! This is for my script Confessions (or the Secret Play for Secretly Liberal Muslims).
Yes, these two scripts are related – the short film borrows themes and some dialogue from Confessions, but they ended up as two very different pieces of art. I am excited to continue developing both of them.
